Cordless electric home and garden power tools are going from strength to strength at the moment and it’s easy to see why. They’re quiet, portable, low maintenance and easy to use.

• More Power – The original mower had a 36V battery, whereas this model has a 48V one.

• Quicker Charging – The new model charges in a very rapid 1 hour vs 5 hours on the old model. That’s a huge improvement and would mean you could easily cut two large areas in the same gardening session so no need for a 2nd battery
• New Blade – A sharper, more robust and efficient blade means less bogging down in thick grass and less power used, which is one reason why the run time is the same but it has more power.

• Larger Grass Box – A 50 litre grass collection box comes as standard whereas the previous model had only a 40 litre one. A 25% increase in size means you’ll be emptying it fewer times per cut.
• Smaller Cutting Width – But only by 1cm. The new cutting width is 42cm (420mm). The original mower was 43cm (430mm). Not a big change to be honest, so it shouldn’t have much impact.
• More Compact – To save more space, the handle now folds differently, meaning a shorter length and more easy to store away in the shed or under the stairs.
• Safety Switch – The old model had an activation key which had to be inserted to use it. The key was too easy to lose and fiddly. This new 2.0 model has a switch to make life a lot easier.

Rapid 1 Hour charge time

With just a quick 1 hour charge, you get up to 40 minutes of use with this mower. That’s pretty decent and enough time for most people to cut their lawn for a medium sized garden.

If it’s not, you can pop it back on charge and start again after a cup of tea and slice of cake!

New Carbon Steel Blade & Cutting Efficiency

Cordless electric mowers had a reputation for getting bogged down in thicker grass due to a lack of power.

GTech have used two approaches to try and resolve those issues:

1. Fit a new, carbon steel blade that’s designed to be more efficient and effective.
2. Make the mower more intelligent so it delivers more power when needed and less when it doesn’t.

The result? A more effective mower that cuts well and adjusts according to the lawn you’re cutting. Is it as powerful as petrol? No…

We’re not quite there yet with the technology to get that much power and have it last but we’re not far away.

If you’re looking to cut very thick, long, dense grass this isn’t the mower for you. A petrol or corded electric one would work better.

Lightweight & Compact

Folds up very small

The GTech mower is aimed at people with small to medium sized gardens. They’re not professional gardeners.

Those people want a good quality cut, but also want an easy to use and store mower. That’s why they’ve changed the folding mechanism so it’s extra compact

They’ve also modified some parts to make it lighter. The result? a saving of 3.5kg, which feels like a lot when you use it.

This makes it perfect for elderly or weaker people and even suitable for teenagers to use so they have no excuse now!

Let’s take a look in a little more detail at the advantages and disadvantages of this mower.

Easy to use and move

Seeing as this is a brand new product, there are not a huge number of reviews available for the product yet.

But from what we’ve heard so far, things are looking good for this new, upgraded mower. People love how lightweight it is which makes it easy to move around.

It’s super easy to set-up and folds down into a very compact size for easy storage in a shed or even under their stairs.

A lot of people were sceptical of using a cordless electric mower, but are happily surprised by how well it cuts and that it’s powerful enough for their lawns.

What’s the Downside?

Good question…For the most part, all of the changes are positive. GTech have just upgraded an existing product that was very good to start with.

The only question in my mind is about the max RPM of the blade. The old model had a maximum of 3,700RPM whereas the new model is 2,800RPM.

Effortless mowing for medium sized gardens

That means that blade spins slower at max speed. However, the new blade is redesigned and apparently more efficient and effective. Therefore it probably doesn’t need to spin as fast. It also saves on power.

That being said, the many positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

Is it Suitable for You..?

If you have a small to medium sized garden which is not too overgrown, this could well be a perfect solution for you.

Fast and effective cutting for your lawn

Those who want a lightweight, easy to store mower with very little maintenance will be more than satisfied with the cut and performance.

It’s NOT suitable for those with very uneven, debris filled areas of grass which are rough, long and thick.

Alternative options…

I’ll be honest, the GTech mower is not the cheapest option out there, even when using the GTech discount code above. So what other options do you have to choose from?

On the much cheaper end is the Flymo Hover Vac 250. This is a lightweight hover mower, which costs less than £100. You can’t really compare the two, but it’s an option if budget is of concern.

Greenworks powerful 40v mower

On a more even level is the GreenWorks G40LM41, a really powerful 40V lawn mower. Cordless electric, like the GTech 2.0 mower, but with much more power and a completely different look.

All really good options for you, depending on your budget and unique requirements.

Easy Fold Handles

One useful feature in this lawnmower is its padded handlebar. This makes it much more comfortable to grip and reduces vibrations.

The handle uses a simple snapping mechanism that lets you fold it in half, which reduces the height of the mower and makes it easier to store.

Single Lever Height

Forget the old wives’ tale that says the shorter you cut your grass, the less you’ll have to mow it.

When you cut grass too short, it becomes more susceptible to heat damage and weed invasion.

The rule of thumb is that you should never remove more than one-third of the total grass blade when you mow. You should find out the particular type of grass you have in your garden and research the height you should cut it at.

Three clipping options

As you mow, there are three things you can do with the grass clippings:

Cut and collect – A large 55-litre collection bag can help you gather all the grass clippings in one go. It is also perfect for collecting all the autumn leaves from your garden instead of having to rake them into a pile.

Cut and release – Clippings will be deposited on the ground as the grass is cut so they can wilt back.

Cut and mulch – This is a great feature. There is a mulching plug included with the lawnmower. Once you fit it in, all the clippings will be cut again into tiny pieces before they are spread onto your lawn. This helps enrich the soil and prevents excessive evaporation and erosion.

Grass clippings contain the same beneficial phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium nutrients as high-quality fertilisers. By spreading the clippings, you can provide as much as one-third of the annual feeding requirement for your lawn.

Split rear roller

Don’t you just love how grass stripes make a garden look? Well, you can get those stripes on your lawn thanks to the rear roller.

Those lines you see are just an effect caused by how light is reflecting off the grass blades. As you mow, the roller will bend the grass. By mowing in opposite directions, you can get this effect.

Blades bent towards you will look dark, while those bent the opposite way look lighter. And you aren’t limited to stripes. With a rear roller you can also obtain checkerboard and diamond patterns.

Rear rollers also have the advantage or letting you cut up to and over the lawn edge without scalping the grass.

Self Propelled

Traditional walk-behind lawn mowers are powered by sweat. The self propelled mechanism of this mower will get the job done faster and with less effort.

As soon as you engage the control lever, which is part of the handle, the mower will start to move forward. All you need to do is guide it around your garden.

Fertilise As You Go

With this mower, you can collect the trimmings in its 40-litre bag. The bag has a convenient carry handle that makes it easy to empty your cuttings.

If you would like to compost the clippings, it is recommended to let them dry for a couple of days to keep them from becoming soggy and emitting a strong ammonia-like odour.

However, this mower also features a mulch plug.
When you use the mulch plug, the clippings are not collected but expelled onto the ground as you mow.

As they decompose, they release nutrients back into the soil, so every time you cut the grass you are also fertilising it. They also help slow down water loss through evaporation.

Simple Height Adjustment

What are users saying…?

The positive…

Users that we have spoken to comment on how good the battery life is and they love that it automatically stops charging when the battery is full. Great energy saving feature.

They also love the finish of the cut that it delivers and how easy it is to switch between different cutting heights in seconds.

The negative…

Some customers experienced delivery issues, such as damage in transit or missed the customer being home. When sending out thousands of units, there is a chance this might happen. But only in less than 1% of cases.

Note: GTech have an excellent reputation for good customer service and will help you replace any faulty products or resolve delivery issues.

Some would prefer there to be an option for a roller in the back to make nice, crisp lines in the lawn. This would add a huge amount of weight to the unit and make it unsuitable for the majority of users. You can purchase a lawn roller on Amazon for as little as £50.

Additionally, this might not be ideal if you are on the shorter side (5 ft 1) as one customer mentions the handle was a little high for her.
