It is often difficult for you to look at what you’re going to get out of your lawn. A large lawn can be appealing and unique, but you will have your work cut out if you want it looking its best all year round.
There are some key considerations that you need to think about if you are going to have the best chance of success for keeping your lawn looking neat and tidy to impress the neighbours…
Let’s look at them now…
1. Mow As and When Required
You should not assume that you need to stop mowing the grass when the temperatures get a little on the chilly side. You need to keep on mowing the lawn every few weeks as the conditions permit.

Mow the grass more than just when required
The goal is to allow the lawn to stay in control by keeping the grass blades from growing to where there will be too much surface to take in the nutrients that the grass requires.

2. Check Your Mower
Before we get into the checks you should be regularly making to your mower, make sure you have the best mower for the job.
For example, if you have a large lawn to cut you will want a ride on mower, and zero turn lawn mowers are great at making sure you cut every blade of grass.

Using a ride on mower could be efficient
Although, for smaller lawns a cordless electric one would be perfect.
Now let’s look at some key areas to check over regularly. Look at how well the mower operates and that it is running effectively. Check the quality of the blades and ensure they are sharp and clean.
The cutting edges should be sharpened on occasion. Also, the blade needs to be aligned otherwise you will get an uneven cut.
3. Review the Height
You do not want to cut your grass to where it might be too short. While you might assume that cutting the grass short provides you with more time between mowing sessions, this move may be dangerous.
You could expose the grass bed to excess sunlight, thus increasing the risk of weeds popping up all over the place.
The best idea for cutting your lawn here is to keep the blade mower cutting height a little higher during the summer to allow the grass bed to stay covered. Meanwhile, the blade should go to the lowest setting during the last two cuttings of the season.
This allows for more sunlight to get to the grass during the coldest times of the year when the conditions might keep the grass from growing. Also, there should be no risk of weeds developing at this point. You will also bear with less grass becoming discolored when you take care of it at this point.
4. Aerate the Soil On Occasion
You need to look at the soil that you are planning out. The soil should be aerated (you can use specific tools for this) on occasion to allow oxygen, water and fertilizer to get into the grass bed.

Aerating the lawn can be very helpful
The roots should be supported to make it easier for the surface to stay comfortable. You might need to get an outside contractor to help you with the aeration process on a large lawn though, what with an aerating device requiring plenty of effort to help you with keeping the space looking its best.
5. Apply Fertilizer At the Right Time
As important as fertilizer can be for your lawn care needs, you have to watch for when you’re going to have the fertilizer applied. The late autumn would be a good time to apply a dry fertilizer material.
You have the option to apply a wet fertilizer during the early part of the spring season. However, late Autumn is perfectly fine if that is the only time when you plan on applying something.

Apply fertilizer at the right times.
This is around the time when you should fertilize the lawn to keep the grass blades active during the warmer times of the year. This may be a good moment for when you need assistance with keeping your lawn looking beautiful.
6. Apply Herbicide to Weeds During Autumn
Weeds can be bothersome in many cases, but the worst part of weeds is that they can be significant if they stick around during the Autumn season.
The weeds will take in more nutrients and energy during that time. But for the best results, you should try to apply the herbicide when the temperatures are at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
This should be around the time when the conditions are conducive for a herbicide to work and not produce any concerns such as negative side-effects.
7. Review Bald Spots During the Autumn
The last tip for caring for your large lawn is to look at any bald spots that might develop around your space.
The Autumn season is an ideal time for fixing up those patches. Mulch, fertilizer and lawn seed can be applied around bald areas during the Autumn when the surface is about to become dormant. You should apply this mixture and then go around the whole lawn looking for areas to cover up.
Everything you do for managing the quality of your lawn should be noted well based on where you’re going with your grass bed and how the space will be prepared.
Be diligent with your work and maintenance in order to keep your lawn looking the best it can be all year round.
