OK, let’s get started…
When you first receive the Vax Platinum Power Max, it needs slight assembly before you start using it. The instruction manual is pretty clear with outlined steps in detail.
Once you assemble it, it’s slightly bigger than your average upright vacuum cleaner, at 111cm in height and 39cm in width.
But still, it’s quite easy to move around and clean your carpets with, thanks to the clever design and two water compartments, which I’ll talk about more later. For now, let’s see the basics of how this carpet cleaner works.
How it Works?
Vax Platinum Power Max cleans by distributing a cleaning solution into your carpet fibres and sucks out all the dirty residue with strong suction.
You put the cleaning solution and warm water in the two chambers at the top, and then use one of the three modes to go over your carpets: quick clean, deep clean, and rinse.
Quick clean is best suited for the majority of cleaning jobs, while deep clean is for especially dirty carpets. The rinse function, on the other hand, is if you want to try and get out any left over residue or cleaning solution.
The wastewater is then collected into a separate chamber at the bottom, which is very easy to remove and empty out.
Key Features
Let’s start by looking at the key features at a glance:
KEY FEATURES
- SpinScrub technology
- Three hand tools
- Twin tanks
- Quick drying
SpinScrub technology
The way the Vax Platinum Power Max is able to deliver incredible carpet cleaning performance is all thanks to the 7 SpinScrub bristles located right behind the XL brush bar.
All seven brushes rotate in different directions, essentially lifting and removing all dirt from your carpets, no matter how deep it’s embedded.
You can notice straight away with the first few passes that the dirty water tank turns brown immediately.
Three hand tools
The Vax Platinum Power Max carpet cleaner comes with three additional tools that make cleaning even easier:
- Stretch hose – a lengthy hose at 4.5m that allows you to reach harder areas, such as sofas and stairs without lifting the entire cleaner. It’s also very handy for cleaning your car.
- Pre-treatment wand – if you have tougher stains on your carpet, you can use this tool to spray a strong jet of cleaning solution directly onto the stain.
- Spin scrub tool – this acts as sort of a mini version of the main floor head, spraying and vacuuming stains at the same time. It attaches to the stretch hose and can be used for cleaning individual stains.
Twin tanks
The Vax Platinum Power Max carpet cleaner has two separate water tanks – one for the clean warm water, and one for the wastewater that comes out of the carpet.
They’re designed specifically to avoid the mix-up of clean with dirty water, so you always spray your carpets with fresh water and cleaning solution.
Both tanks are very easy to remove for easy filling or emptying out.
Quick drying
Vax promises that your carpets will be left dry in an hour after cleaning, but that mainly depends on the temperature.
In summer, this is easily achievable, but in the colder months, it can take somewhere around 2 hours.
Top Tip: If you want faster drying turn on the heating
Anyway, the Vax Platinum Power Max carpet cleaner uses its strong suction of 1200W to remove any solution residue and water left behind after cleaning.

What are People Saying…?
Online reviews of people who bought and used the Vax Platinum Power Max carpet cleaner are full of praise for the product.
With more than five thousand 5-star reviews, it’s clear that this cleaner delivers on all its promises.
People are mostly impressed by the cleaning performance and didn’t even know that their carpets were that dirty in the first place. They are extremely glad that their carpets looked as good as new even after heavy stains.
This carpet cleaner has been a god send. I have a 9 week old puppy who likes leaving little presents on the carpet. The cleaning power is amazing and has removed the stains both fresh and old. It made me realise how dirty my carpets were as I have used the cleaner in each room. I didn’t realise how therapeutic cleaning my carpets could be… – Oz
What’s the Downside…?
One common issue that can be noticed among users is that the cleaner can be difficult to store away due to its big dimensions.
This could be an issue if you live in a smaller place, but for me personally, its excellent performance makes it worth it, especially when compared to taking your carpets to a cleaning service every month.
Using this cleaner has been amazing – I can’t remember the last time I saw my carpets this clean. However, I live in a smaller apartment and it takes quite a bit of space to store it. It still doesn’t take as much space as older carpet cleaners used to, and with such a strong performance, I’m definitely keeping it and using it! – Jenny

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the noise (dBA) when using the cleaner?
A: Around 85-90 dB
Q: Do you have to vacuum and clean carpets separately, or does it do both at the same time?
A: Yes you have to vacuum first especially if you have pets as the hair can go through the machine, I vacuumed first really well and there was still some clumps of fur in the dirty water container. It is a bit noisy, but I was impressed by the appearance of my pale gold carpet after the clean and rinse. It reduced the odour of cat substantially too, I have an elderly slightly incontinent cat. While we protect and spot clean as much as possible the machine did a good job.
Q: Has anybody tried this on flat carpet ? I rent a house and the carpet is the cheapest thin stuff.
A: I’ve used it on various thin rubber backed rugs and it has been fine. Cheers
