Remember the world’s smallest vacuum?
Well, there’s a new and improved version of it…
GTech recently launched the second version of their famous HyLite model (which I reviewed previously) – the Gtech HyLite 2!
In today’s review, I’ll be comparing the two versions as well as give an in-depth look at this model to see what makes it so special.

OK, let’s get started…
How Does the HyLite 2 Compare to The Original Version?
First off, the most obvious difference is one of aesthetics – the colour of the main unit. The HyLite featured a green colour, whereas the new Hylite 2 version has a more minimalistic look with silver colour and green accents.
The Hylite 2 looks more slick and is lighter
But more importantly, there’s a difference in the performance as well. The Gtech HyLite 2 has much better suction power and lifts dirt and dust easier than the first model.
This is mainly due to the fact that the powered brush head now features Gtech’s unique AirLOC technology, which they have a pending patent for.
Use the duster at the same time as vacuuming
This technology ensures all debris is picked up when you push forward, while all the fine dust and dirt is picked up on the back stroke.
In addition, the bristles on the rotating brush are made from a firmer material and brush the carpet pile much better, removing any dirt that’s deeply embedded.
Oh, and finally, the Gtech HyLite 2 comes with a detachable duster so you can reach into high corners or difficult spots and pick up cobwebs and dust with ease.
Now that we got the main differences out of the way, let’s take a look at the main features for those of you that aren’t familiar with the Gtech HyLite model.
Key Features
Let’s start by looking at the key features at a glance:
KEY FEATURES
- Incredibly lightweight (1.6kg)
- Triple-layered filter bags
- Lithium-Ion battery (2 hour charge)
- Clever design
Incredibly lightweight
1.6kg (3.5lbs)
The entire design of the Gtech HyLite 2 revolves around its remarkable weight.
It weighs only 1.6kg (that’s 3.5lb) with the handle attached and just 1kg (2.2lb) in hand-held mode.
Yes, you read that right! Imagine you have just a large bag of sugar in your hands it’s that light.
For comparison, let’s see how much other top-rated cordless vacuums weigh:
- Gtech HyLite 2 – 3.5lbs
- Dyson V10 Absolute – 5.9lbs
- Miele Compact C1 – 6lbs
- VonHaus 2 in 1 – 4.5lbs
- Gtech AirRam MK2 – 7lbs
With such a light weight, it’s extremely easy to use, even for the elderly and disabled. To ensure the weight stays down, GTech have come up with an ingenious design where all of the main parts are fitted into the vacuum head.
This allows you to use it without the handle, so the next time you’re vacuuming the stairs or your upholstery, you can do it with ease.
An added benefit of this design is that there’s nowhere for dust and dirt to cause blockages in the tubes since it directly goes into the bag located in the main unit. This ensures strong performance with less power.
Triple-layered filter bags
Traps all dust
We’re seeing a resurgence of bags in cordless vacuums lately (I’m thinking the popular GTech Pro 2 K9) and it’s for a good reason. They are very easy to use and maintain and act as a filter that is replaced every time you replace the bag.
Bag replacements used to be expensive back in the day, but now, G Tech offers a pack of 15 bags for only £12.99.
This should last you for a year or two, based on GTech’s internal simulation tests and research that showed that the average user goes through 7 bags per year.
But let’s talk more about the bag itself. It has a capacity of 0.3 litres, but it can actually hold up to 3 times its volume. That’s because the vacuum’s airflow compresses the dust and debris inside, ensuring more space is available.
Each bag contains 3 robust and rip-resistant layers that trap even the finest dust in there. Let’s see how this works in action:
Li-Ion battery
2hr charge time
The Gtech HyLite 2 comes equipped with a 14.4V Lithium-ion battery. It takes around two hours to get a full charge, and with it, you can get around 20 minutes of run time.
There’s also a battery indicator on top of the battery so you always know how much power you have left.
Once you’re all out of battery, you can use the charger to charge it both off and on the main vacuum unit. This means you no longer have to remove the battery and charge it separately. Truly designed with ease of use in mind.
Clever design
Compact storage
On that same note, I can’t go without mentioning all the clever design features that are evident throughout the vacuum cleaner.
First off, the fact that everything is fitted into the main unit is an achievement all in itself. From there, the telescopic handle has a very compact size when retracted, and you can store all the parts together in a kitchen drawer.
Other key design features include the LED lights at the front of the power head for increased visibility of dirt and dust, the ease of replacing the bags rather than washing bins and filters, and the included hair removal tool for easy brush cleaning.

What are People Saying…?
Even though this is a new product, positive reviews are already emerging on Gtech’s website. People are very pleased with the ease of use of this vacuum, as well as the performance upgrade over the first HyLite model.
People found it very easy to fit and replace the bags, and the fact that it doesn’t take any storage space is an added bonus.
Let’s see what one satisfied customer had to say:
“The HyLite 2 is so light and manoeuvrable that it does a quick clean up of the kitchen and is equally at home in the living room. Lugging a vacuum cleaner upstairs can be quite a heavy task. Not with the Hylite2!” – Mike B.
What’s the Downside…?
There haven’t been any complaints of the HyLite 2 so far, but one user pointed out a small design flaw in the main unit. The air outlet is facing forwards, so when air is expelled it can blow fine dust away from the vacuum. Luckily, this didn’t present any big problems and the cleaning performance was still excellent.
“HyLite 2 has a strong suction and firm brushes, so it brushes the carpet pile perfectly. However the air outlet still faces forward which blows dust away from the cleaner on hard floors. This isn’t a major issue though, and my floors are left clean regardless.” – Linda K.
Advantages
- Incredibly lightweight
- Compact design
- Easy storage
- Strong suction power
- Fast charging time
- Triple-layered filter bags
Disadvantages

Is it Suitable for You..?
The main purpose of the Gtech HyLite 2 is to provide an easy cleaning solution with minimal maintenance needed. All you need to do is replace the bag once in a while, and that’s it.
When you’re done vacuuming, just take out the telescopic tube and place the entire unit in a small drawer. When you need it again, just pick it up and start vacuuming.
So, if you lack the storage space and need a vacuum that’s so lightweight you can barely feel it, the GTech HyLite 2 is the perfect addition for your home.
