How Does an Oscillating Multi-Tool Work?
All oscillating tools, including this one from Gtech, work by moving an attachment at a very high-speed in a side-to-side motion. This allows for precise control with minimal vibration, perfect for delicate DIY tasks.
In contrast to other power tools that work by spinning or moving back and forth, oscillating tools are more flexible and can be used in a wider range of tasks. I’ll talk more about the different uses in the Features section, but for now, let’s get familiar with the new GTech multi-tool.
Cordless products have made many parts of our lives easier, from vacuuming our houses without pulling cords all the time, to taking power tools for remote use wherever we go without the need for a power outlet.
I’m glad to see that the new Multi-Tool from Gtech is a cordless one as well, especially because I need it the most for trimming pipes in difficult-to-reach places. And I couldn’t do that if I had to mess around with power cords and extension cables.
But being cordless is just the tip of the iceberg of what this multi-tool has to offer. Let’s explore its best features more closely.
Key Features
Let’s start by looking at the key features at a glance:
KEY FEATURES
- Versatile attachments
- Clever design
- Variable speed
- Universal 20V Li-Ion battery
Versatile attachments
The new Gtech Cordless Multi-Tool comes with three main attachments:
- Plunge blade
- Disc blade
- Detailing sanding block
- 32mm plunge blade – this attachment is suitable for cutting different materials, such as wood, plastics, and non-ferrous metals.
- 80mm diameter disc blade – used for cutting even more materials, such as wood with nails, drywall, and even PVC.
- Detailing sanding block – used for sanding wood for a smooth finish. It comes with three sanding pads for different applications: P40 (coarse), P80 (medium-coarse), and P120 (fine coarse).
The multi-tool uses a universal fixing system that can be easily changed by hand and used even with other generic accessories.
Clever design
Like many other Gtech products, the multi-tool has been designed to perfection. It’s small and ergonomically designed to fit in corners and tight spaces while still providing accurate movement for cutting and sanding.
It’s very well built and feels sturdy in your hand whilst still having balance. The places where you grip are lined with soft materials for even greater comfort.
It also has the added benefit of an LED light, which is great for working in darker areas. And as we all know, almost all corners and inaccessible places are not very well lit.
The universal fitting system can be changed to fit the blades at any angle you need. This allows you to operate the tool in a variety of positions without having to be in an awkward pose.
Variable speed
You can have full control over the multi-tool by changing up the speed. You have 6 different settings to choose from, starting from 8,000rpm to 18,000rpm.
The switch is conveniently placed at the side of the tool so you can use your thumb to vary the oscillation speed at any time.
This is particularly handy when moving between different types of material that you are cutting, sanding or grinding so you can work at just the correct speed.
Universal 20V Li-Ion battery
If you own other power tools from G-Tech’s Power Tools line, you’ll be glad to know that even the multi-tool uses the same 20V battery and charger.
So, you can save half the price by purchasing just the bare unit and use the battery you already have.
The other tools include:
- Cordless Drill
- Cordless Impact Driver
- Cordless Task Light (not reviewed yet)
- Cordless Flood Light (not reviewed yet)
Or if this is your first power tool in your toolkit, you can always buy other ones from Gtech’s line without having to purchase a battery and charger for every single one separately.
The Li-Ion battery can be fully charged in less than an hour and a half, allowing you to get the job done quickly.

Is it Suitable for You..?
The only limit to what an oscillating multi-tool can do is your imagination. So, if you’re often working on DIY tasks around your home, getting the Gtech Cordless Multi-Tool is a great choice.
It will allow you to slice through a range of materials with ease, sand down furniture, and much more. If you’re looking for an all-purpose tool to be your “go-to”, it’s hard to see past this one.
Alternatives Options
Some people comment on it being made by GTech and how good can it be compared to the likes of Bosch, Milwaukee, etc.
It’s a good point and one that can only be argued after having used the tools in question. The likes of Bosch have built their reputation over many years of use and offer a bit more of a serious DIY edge to their products.
The GTech Multi Tool is a great piece of kit which is more affordable than the likes of a Bosch with plenty of power and features to match it. Some might be put-off by the name, but then they are the folk that would prefer the more professional look.
The bottom line…
The GTech Cordless Multi-Tool truly does it all. From cutting back baseboards, repairing door jambs, pulling up carpets, trimming paintings, to removing rotted wood, trimming plastic casing, and sand flushing a baseboard, it’s truly impossible to imagine a DIY toolbox without an oscillating multi-tool in it.
And with such impressive features and a clever design, the brand new multi-tool from Gtech is my go-to choice!
