OK, let’s get started…
The Hyundai HYM530SPR is the largest of the Hyundai self-propelled petrol mower line, consisting of the HYM480SPR (48cm cutting width) and HYM510SPE (51cm cutting width).
With a broad cutting width of 53 cm, it’s designed primarily for large-sized lawns. When using a lawn mower for a larger lawn, it’s important to have a few safety features to prevent any accidents when taking a break.
Luckily, this mower has an OPC (Operator Presence Control) technology that ensures the engine will stop working once you let go of the handle.
In addition, the Hyundai HYM530SPR is fitted with a 38cm ribbed rear roller that provides extra stability for the mower without sacrificing any maneuverability like most other rollers do. Besides that, it also allows you to create the traditional British striped lawn effect.
But one of the best parts about this mower is that it offers 2-in-1 cutting features: cut and collect, or rear discharge. What this means is that you can choose to collect the grass clippings in the spacious collection bag (70 litre), or discharge them from the rear of the mower.
The rear discharge option will blow the grass clippings onto your lawn to provide it with important nutrients for optimal growth. It’s a great option when used on shorter grass, but on longer grass, the clippings may not always break down naturally and cause the build-up of thatch.
To avoid this and ensure you have a healthy and beautiful lawn, try to follow the 1/3 rule – only cut 1/3 of the height of your lawn.
If you still somehow end up with a thatch problem, check out my review of the Greenworks Cordless Dethatcher or the VonHaus 2-in-1.

And now, let’s get to the fun part – the best features of the Hyundai HYM530SPR.
Let’s look at some of the best features…
70L Grass Collector
This mower comes with a sizeable 70-litre grass collection bag. It’s made with a hard plastic top with holes for airflow and a polypropylene/polyester fabric.
The extra space means that you can spend more time mowing without having to stop and empty out the bag into the compost bin.
Additionally, it features a level indicator that lets you know when it needs to be emptied, saving you even more time by not having to check on it constantly.
Powerful and Economic Engine
Powered by Hyundai’s popular 196cc 4-stroke Euro 5 OHV petrol engine, it features an easy starting recoil pull start.
The popular engine ensures this lawn mower produces much less noise than other petrol lawn mowers.
In addition, it will keep your costs to a minimum by not requiring much maintenance and consuming very little fuel.
Adjustable Cutting Height
With 6 different cutting heights, ranging from 25mm to 75mm, you can have complete control over the finish of your lawn.
The height of the blades is controlled by a single point height adjustment lever located on the side of the mower.
This means you can easily start off with a higher setting and work your way down effortlessly, giving you the exact length you want on your lawn.
Here’s a quick video showing you exactly how easy it is to adjust the height on this mower.
Easy to Clean
I know, cleaning your mower is probably not in your top 5 gardening activities. Luckily, Hyundai has made this easier for you.
You can attach a garden hose to the deck cleaning connection to easily clean the underneath of the lawn mower.
This way, you will prolong the life of the blades and the entire mower without much trouble.
It’s a very handy feature, which will also prevent the build up of grass clippings which you all too often see on the underneath of most mowers.
Compact Storage
The handles, which are lined with a soft-grip, can be folded forwards to save some precious storage space in your shed or garage.
It can also be easily fitted into a vehicle for transportation.
This makes space saving easy and convenient, which we know is more important as many gardeners have sheds overflowing with different pieces of kit!

What are People Saying…?
People seem to love how easy the Hyundai HYM530SPR is to set up and start mowing, especially considering it’s a petrol lawn mower.
It’s easy to manoeuvre around, and the self-propelled option ensures you won’t tire when using it in larger gardens.
Online reviews of people who’ve bought this mower are full of 5 stars. Let’s take a look at one of them:
Received my new mower today. What a quality machine, solid and well constructed, I put it together following the instructions provided and on the web without any problems. It started first time and the OPC and drive cables didn’t need too much attention and I was able to make a cut of the lawn just to get used to how the mower performs. Superb styling and most importantly cuts the grass quickly with a medium amount of effort. Great value for money. – Anne B.
What’s the Downside…?
The only downside of this lawn mower is that it’s not meant for overgrown lawns. The collection bag, although large, can have trouble collecting longer grass clippings.
However, the fact that it’s incredibly easy to use and manoeuvre means that you can mow more often and avoid having an overgrown lawn in the first place.
This downside is also noticeable in reviews of people who’ve used the Hyundai HYM530SPR.
My neighbour bought this and I assembled it for them. Easy to assemble, but very poor performance. Though it got a large collection box, the mower stalls even before half of the box is filled. This won’t cope with an overgrown lawn as it doesn’t have enough power to drive the cuttings well into the collection box, so I had to empty it when it was only a third full. However, when I used it on my shorter lawn, it performed without any issue and the collection box didn’t show any problems.
The key thing to remember? This is not designed for overgrown lawns. If you do need to use it on one, you could make sure to empty the collection bag regularly.
