OK, let’s get started…
This trimmer combines a unique set of features that make it stand out from the rest. Let’s take a closer look at what those are.
1. Ergonomics
One of the most important features to look for in a hedge trimmer is the design of the handle and how the weight is distributed.
Poor design on both these areas will tire your arms quickly and leave you feeling fatigued.
Luckily, the handle of the AHS 50-20 is ergonomically designed, providing a relaxed grip and the right balance needed to trim your hedges with minimal effort.
The rear handle has a soft grip, while the front handle is multi-position, allowing for easy and convenient trimming. In addition, the hand guard just in front of the front handle is transparent ensuring you always have good visibility of what you’re cutting.
2. Strong Battery Performance
The 18V lithium-ion battery with 2.5Ah that comes with this trimmer allows for cutting up to 160 square meters per charge thanks to its impressive run time of 40 minutes.
The innovative lithium-ion technology ensures that the trimmer will be ready to use at the simple press of a button – no matter how long it has been sitting in the shed without being used.
The battery can be fully charged in just 60 minutes, so you don’t have to worry about spending the whole day waiting to use your trimmer.
In addition, the battery is also compatible with all Bosch garden power tools.
3. Lightweight Design
The Bosch AHS 50-20 is also quite lightweight, especially when compared to other trimmers.
It weighs just around 2.5kg, allowing minimum strain on both your arms and your back.
What’s even more impressive, is that Bosch have somehow managed to retain the functionality and performance of the trimmer, while still keeping the weight so low.
Other trimmers, such as the GTech HT20 are a similar weight. Whereas more powerful models, like the Greenworks 40V are almost twice the weight.
4. Anti-Blocking System
Few things are more annoying that having to stop midway through your trimming to remove branches that have stuck between the blades of your trimmer.
Fortunately, Bosch have solved this problem by implementing their “Anti-Blocking System” on this trimmer.
This system allows you to cut through more stubborn stems with ease, avoiding any chance of wasting time.
The way this system works is by causing the blade to reverse itself once it detects a jam. This also makes the trimmer safer as you don’t have to remove the jams with your hands.
5. Syneon Chip
The AHS 50-20 also comes with the intelligent Syneon Chip which controls the amount of energy required for the task.
This interaction between the Lithium-Ion battery and the motor enables the trimmer to deliver optimal power at all times.
It also reduces the run time of the battery and provides maximum endurance.

What are People Saying…?
Due to the simplicity of using it, people trim their hedges much more frequently with the Bosch AHS 50-20.
They also love the fact that it’s quiet, lightweight and easy to carry around.
A wonderful hedge cutter, and so light to use. I find I use it much more frequently than when I used a mains-powered electric cutter. Now I can occupy a few spare minutes with a quick trim – no need to go to all the bother of getting extension cables out, and no danger of cutting the cord. And it is quiet – no need for ear protectors, unlike petrol hedge cutters. I have not yet managed to flatten the battery, even after an hour’s usage. It is powerful – with care it will happily chew its way through thick branches. – Electroholic
What’s the Downside…?
The only downside of this trimmer is that it can struggle cutting through harder and thicker branches.
On the bright side, if you use the special teeth near the top and have several goes without pushing too hard, you can also get through thicker stuff.
It doesn’t easily cut thicker branches – however you can get through thicker stuff if you back off and have several goes and don’t push too hard. The auto reverse & retry action works quite well – it sort of gives you a warning that it’s going to stick and gives you a chance to back off. Also the blades near the tip work better for tough stuff. – Mike Gould
