GTech have just released a new eBike for 2017.

It’s called the G Tech eScent Mountain eBike and it looks cool!

Below I will reveal 5 fascinating facts about the eScent bike and my own opinions on the bike. It’s like an eBike review, just better!

But first…

Not too long ago GTech released two different types of eletric bikes that were designed solely for use around the city. I wrote about them in the best electric bike for under £1,000 post.

No Oil Painting

The look of them left a lot to be desired in my opinion. Sterile and white with no character. Although effective, they didn’t really have the greatest appeal and looked kind of basic.

They did have some innovative features though, such as replacing the oily, high maintenance chain with a belt. Good idea, Mr G Tech…

Ride Forward to Today…

And look at the differences they’ve made. They’re clearly targeting a different rider with their new eScent mountain eBike.

They’ve ditched the white colour, it’s now a silver mountain bike with suspension, hydraulic brakes, a real chain and a 10 speed Shimano gear system.

“Basically, it’s a proper bike with the addition of a lithium-ion battery”

The tyres and wheels have been designed with off-road and on-road requirements in mind, so you’re good to go wherever you want really.

GTech eScent Mountain eBike: 5 Fascinating Facts

Here are 5 facts that should help you in making a purchasing decision.

#1 Free Trial

There is a 14-day, risk free trial – simply order online and get your eScent eBike delivered to your door.

Make sure you keep your packaging. If you’re not happy with it you can send it back. Make sure you don’t go riding out and about and abuse it though, as then it means you’ve been using it too much to return it.

Top Tip: If you live near Worcester, you can take it for a test ride for free if you pop into their showroom.

#2 Worthy Warranty

There is a 2 year warranty on both the bike and the battery. That’s a very reassuring guarantee if you ask me. GTech clearly have faith in the quality of their products.

A British manufacturer that really wants to ensure they maintain a good reputation. You can ride assured that if there are any issues you will be supported.

#3 Easy Rider

Not only do you get suspension on the front forks, you also get a suspension saddle. A great addition for extra comfort, especially when riding off-road.

This is another innovative design feature and shows you the type of rider they are appealing to. It’s the one who wants to get out to explore but also in comfort.

#4 All Geared up

GTech have opted to use a reputable third party manufacturer, Shimano, for their gear system. This shows you how much progress is being made in the eBike industry when larger manufacturers are opting to get involved.

Bosch are another manufacturer that product motors for eBikes.

#5 Cruising Speed

The eScent has a range of up to 30 miles, but this is on flatish ground. Put simply, the heavier you are, more hilly the terrain and the less you pedal the more power you will use and less distance you’ll cover.

Realistically, you will cover more like 15-20 miles, which is still a long way!

Learn more at GTech

The bottom line…

This eScent electric Bike is suited for people who want to get out and about and do some off-road riding. It’s NOT targeted at those who commute.

Having said that, you can ride it on the roads without a problem. It would be a really comfortable ride and take your up to 30 miles on one charge.

Its also has two power modes so if you want a harder workout you can turn the power down and pedal harder.

Which eBike Should I Buy?

Let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of both types of bike that GTech offer so you can decide which one is right for you.

GTech eScent Mountain Bike

GTech City/Sport eBikes

Disadvantages

Here’s the thing…

If you’re after a bike to commute to work, in and around the city, the GTech city/sport bike is the one to go for because it’s low maintenance, has no chain and will be easier to manoeuvre around on through the traffic.

For an off-road bike, that’s more like a traditional one, the eScent is ideal. If you’re going out regularly with friends or family, it means the less able in the group will be able to keep up with the strongest riders.

You’re here because you want an electric bike for under £1,000. You’re in luck…

This post provides honest guidance when buying an eBike in the UK in 2017.

You’ll discover how to choose an eBike, the cost of charging, the best eBike for under £1,000 in the UK right now and much, much more. Let’s get started with this 2017 eBike review…

The Best Electric Bike for Hills & Hill Climbing

Let’s face it, only going downhill on a bike is fun. That’s where an electric motor assisted cycle can help you.

Don’t try this at home…

As you apply pressure through the pedals, the on-board computer monitors your pedal power. As you reach a hill and apply more pressure, the motor kicks in and delivers more power so you have to pedal less.

With the GTech eBike, you have a 36v lithium-ion battery that will deliver consistent and effective pedal power when you need it the most. Meaning you breeze up those hills without a sweat.

Top Tip: Don’t try the above on your electric bike…In fact, don’t try it on any bike.

How Fast are Electric Bikes?

Fast Downhill Bike

There are some very expensive electric bikes out there that will go up to 50mph. Faster than some scooters!

For most bicycles, the top power assisted speed is around 15-20mph.

You can pedal it as fast as you like though. The GTech eBike travels at up to 15mph (24kph) which is
perfect for commuting in cities, especially in London where the average speed of traffic is 9mph!

The more speed you want, the more power you need. Everything has a cost. You’ll find that the battery life is lower, too.

Top Tip: eBikes with a 15mph top speed are ideal for towns, cities and commuting.

Learn more at GTech

Lightweight Electric Bike

Question: Why do you want a lightweight bike?

Answer: Because you are pedaling it. The lower the weight, the easier it is to handle and pedal, especially up hill.

So light it’s not the-air….

However…Since this is an electric bike. You have a battery which will help you, so weight is no longer so important.

Normal road bikes range in weight from an ultra-light 7kg to a heavy 16kg. It’s no surprise that electric models weigh in at the heavy end.

The G Tech bike weighs 16kg.

Top Tip: Think about where you will store your bike. Do you have to lift it anywhere? Upstairs, etc.

Choosing an Electric Bike: Electric Bike Advice

Answer these questions:

How frequently will I use it?

How far will I be riding

How much time between journeys?

What is my budget?

Here are some factors that you could think about…

If you use it everyday, you need a battery that will charge in a few hours. So look at the charging time required for a full charge.

Check out the range of the bike and make sure that you will be able to make the distance with the battery.

Are you commuting to work and back? If so, can you charge at work?

Price is always a factor. Bear in mind that you will have almost no maintenance costs. Just the re-charging of the battery. See below for how much that will cost you. Prepare to be surprised…

The G Tech bicycle has a range of 30 miles from a 3 hour charge. You can detach the battery and carry it with you. The bike is available for under £1,000.

Top Tip: You can ride your electric powered cycle without a battery. It’ll be heavy, but you can do it. If you run out of battery, you’ll have a free workout!

Learn more at GTech

Cost of Charging an Electric Bike

£1 = 690 miles

*Based on the average energy price of 15.8p per KW.

That’s amazing value. It’s almost free…If you compare it to any other transport, such as car, bus or train there is no comparison!

Using an electric bike is one of the most cost efficient ways to travel you can find.

Top Tip: If you buy a bike with fewer moving parts, the maintenance costs will be extra low

The GTech bike is easy to re-charge. Simply unlock the battery from the frame and carry it inside. Plug it in, and charge away.

What is the best Electric Bike in the UK?
