I think you’ll agree when I say:
“You can find incredible information online for free.”
And that’s exactly what today’s post is about. I’ve searched far and wide over the internet to bring you 5 of the latest, greatest and most insightful gardening blogs that I could find.
Who are they aimed at?
I’ve chosen a wide variety of blogs because I believe that a good amount of choice helps the most people. From expert gardeners who have published books to beginner gardeners who are helping those new to gardening, there is something for everyone here.
#1 – The Enduring Gardener
I think it’s fair to say that Stephanie Donaldson is a true gardener at heart. You can tell by the way she writes that she lives and breathes gardening all year round.
I love that Stephanie believes in an organic approach to gardening. It’s so refreshing to hear that she doesn’t like to take shortcuts when a good old bit of hard work will do the trick.
You can find all sorts of unique, interesting and inspiring pieces of information on Stephanie’s blog. From garden design to maintenance, it’s all there. She has a very pragmatic approach to design, which means you’ll get better results if you follow her advice. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail…
Why Should I Read the Blog…?
Stephanie likes to provide all the details required so you can follow along. The descriptions, detail and diagrams are very well laid out and thought out. They convey the message eloquently and succinctly.
I can highly recommend checking out her blog for more information and following her Facebook page.
#2 – Out of my Shed
The brains behind “Out of my Shed” is Naomi Schillinger. A Londoner born and raised, Naomi has a passion for bringing the joys of gardening to everyone, regardless of their garden size. She loves to use small spaces to grow plants and vegetables and show urban dwellers how to do the same.
Naomi has written a book called ‘Veg Street’, available on Amazon, which helps you grow your own vegetable garden while using it as a way to build a community feel in an often overcrowded, community-less feeling city.
You can tell by Naomi’s tales of trips to places such as Great Dixter that she is passionate about nature, flowers and how they help to uplift her mood.
Why Should I Read the Blog…?
Naomi doesn’t post that often, but when she does the information she shares is priceless. Just a quick read of her post about “Front Garden Lettuces” provides you with a wealth of knowledge that only comes from experience.
Her easy to understand language is quick to read and gets your head thinking about ways to use the excellent tips in your own garden.
You can also tell by the comments on her blog that she has a good following of passionate people who share her zest for gardening. Highly recommended, especially for those that have smaller gardens to play with.
#3 – Alaska Master Gardener Blog
Now this blog is certainly not for everyone, as it is mainly dedicated to those who want to garden in Alaska. However…There are many lessons which can be learned from gardening other areas of land.
The quality of content on the blog is thought provoking and helps the reader consider if their choices are in fact the best ones for the environment in which they are working.
The blog is run by volunteers who share their information to help each other become better, master gardeners.
Why Should I read the Blog…?
Posts which give genuine insights into the tricks and tips that they use is incredibly helpful. This is the kind of information that you only get through experience and now you are lucky enough to be able to read it first hand.
You can connect today with them on Facebook.
#4 – Catharine Howard Gardens
Catharine is clearly passionate and educated about gardening, having been surrounded by beautiful examples as a child. She then followed her passion and studied landscape design at Greenwich University followed by horticulture at Writtle college in Essex.
Catharine’s continues to have an enthusiasm for knowledge, creating The Gardening Coach to help new and old gardeners alike with their gardens. It’s a service that she offers so people can work alongside her in their own gardens.

#5 – The Sunday Gardener
What I really like about The Sunday Gardener is how there are lots of “How to” guides, such as one on growing your own tomatoes.
The information is straight forward and to the point. There is no waffling around, which makes it ideal if you just want to know the answer to some of the most frequently asked questions about gardening.
Another exciting feature of the site is the month-by-month breakdown of what to do in the garden for each month of the year.
If you’re after excellent how to guides that shed all the light you need so you can create a beautiful vegetable garden, this is the place to get the information.
